Reflex Locomotion According to Vojta

Courses are designed for PT, OT, DC, ATC, MD and DO.

What is Reflex Locomotion According to Vojta?

Dr. Vaclav Vojta ("voy-ta") was a Czech Pediatric Neurologist who developed a diagnostic and therapeutic approach referred to as Vojta therapy, or “Reflex Locomotion According to  Vojta.” The approach was initially developed to evaluate and treat children with Cerebral Palsy and eventually those children at risk of developing cerebral palsy.  Dr. Vojta observed that when you place children in certain positions and stimulate specific points you can evoke a reflexive movement response that improved the postural control of those children.  His Reflex Locomotion technique was broadened through the years to include patients of all ages with both neurological and orthopedic conditions.  He was able to elicit the Reflexive Movement responses in patients of all ages and speculated that the innate movement programs were present throughout life.

Vojta Therapy for Children

The Vojta method involves gentle pressure on specific zones to stimulate reflexes in infants and children. The therapy generates two standard locomotor responses - reflex creeping and reflex turning - without any conscious effort from the patient or intervention from the clinician. Rolling over and creeping are significant milestones in infants, and failure to achieve them can indicate developmental issues. Early intervention can prevent inefficient movement patterns from becoming permanent. Read More…

Vojta Therapy for Adults

Vojta treatment can be used in adults for a variety of conditions including spinal and brain injuries, stroke, peripheral neuropathy, low back pain, herniated discs, incontinence, and pelvic floor dysfunction. The degree and type of damage will affect the results, but Vojta therapy can alleviate pain and promote efficient functional movement. Read More…

Reflex Locomotion Principles
(Online Course)*

  • In this course you will:

    • Learn the history of Primitive Therapeutics and  Reflex Locomotion According to Vojta.

    • Review primitive movement patterns across development from fetus to free walking.

    • Study current research and published literature around the technique.

    • Get an overview of the reflexive stimulation points.

*RLP is required before registration in RL1/RL2.

Reflex Locomotion Level One Course

 Reflex Locomotion Level 1
(Hands-On/In-Person Course)

  • In this course you will:

    • Review and master the stimulation points and their unique application to the various positions defined by Vojta’s work.

    • Practice direction of pressure and how much pressure to apply. This is a tactile skill and takes lots of practice, and is the primary objective of RL1.

    • Review common muscle chains and learn to observe the planned/predicted movement patterns for each limb during the therapeutic application of RL.

    • Master the stimulation points for the most common Reflex Locomotion starting postures.

    • Learn assessment tools to observe planned/predicted movement patterns.

    • Apply these skills in an integrated approach with your existing manual therapy skills for orthopedic and appropriately matched neurological conditions.

    • Get the opportunity to practice your skills in a hands-on learning atmosphere.

*RLP is required before registration in RL1.

Reflex Locomotion Level Two Course

Reflex Locomotion Level 2
(Hands-On/In-Person Course)

  • In this course you will:

    • Review common muscle chains and planned/predicted movement patterns.

    • Continue to master the stimulation points and their unique application to the various positions defined by Vojta’s work.

    • Learn the most powerful variations to the common Reflex Locomotion starting postures.

    • Apply these postural variations in an integrated approach with your current manual therapy skills for orthopedic and appropriately matched neurological conditions.

    • Learn exercises that Dr. Vojta found to support his technique which were developed by Roswitha Brunkow, PT.

    • Get even more opportunity to practice your skills in a hands-on guided learning atmosphere.

*RLP & RL1 are required before registration in RL2.
