Embracing Growth: Continuing Education in Vojta Therapy and Beyond
As I embarked on my journey with Vojta therapy, challenges and opportunities intertwined to shape my professional path. In July 2005, I returned to Germany for an intensive two-week session, beginning with theory and research in Munich under the guidance of Professor Laufens. Despite the linguistic hurdles posed by his low-toned speech and my evolving German vocabulary, the experience laid a foundational understanding of Vojta's principles.

Embracing Challenges: English Please!
In the realm of physical therapy techniques, Vojta stands out in Europe as an exclusive method, primarily reserved for physiotherapists. This uniqueness posed a challenge for me as a chiropractor, especially given the scarcity of English translations for essential texts like "Das Prinzip" and "Cerebellar Disturbance of the Child."
Venturing into the world of Vojta therapy meant overcoming not only linguistic barriers but also cultural and educational ones. My journey began with a daunting task: learning German, the language intertwined with the technique's teachings. Despite my prior exposure to German during high school, the rustiness of my skills posed a daunting challenge

From Tragedy to Triumph: My Journey into the Heart of Rehabilitation after 9/11
As we flew home from Prague on Sunday 9/9/2001, the events that unfolded cast a shadow over our trip. Before departing, we searched the city for Dr. Janda’s home near the US embassy but were thwarted by roadblocks. The atmosphere was tense, as we were asked to provide emergency contact information at the airport—a request we had never encountered before. Just days after our return, the tragedy of 9/11 shook the world, dimming the excitement of our recent journey.

My Journey to Vojta
In 1998, my rehabilitation training under the guidance of Craig Liebensen and LACC introduced me to luminaries like Dr. Vladimir Janda and Karel Lewit. So, when the chance arose to delve deeper into their teachings in Prague, I couldn't resist. Those two weeks were transformative, but it was on the final day that my true inspiration ignited.
Dr. Lewit, our instructor for the day, introduced us to Dr. Pavel Kolar and his groundbreaking work. Kolar's demonstration of Reflex Locomotion according to Vojta left me in awe. Witnessing the oscillation of the lateral thoracic wall in the serratus anterior was nothing short of revelatory.

Lab Rats or Field Mice?
Have you ever sat through a conference where presenters effortlessly recite research data as if plucking fireflies from a summer night sky, only for it to disappear just as quickly? It's impressive, no doubt, but often lacks practicality. Like those fleeting fireflies, the data flits about, bursting with excitement before fading into obscurity. If you want to capture that magic, you need to catch it in a cup and take a closer look – print the study and get out your highlighter.

What are people saying about the new Primitive Therapeutics course?
The information learned during the weekend was both enlightening and helpful for both my wife and I. Learning for the instructors at Primitive Therapeutics not only helped add a new understanding of how the human body works but also added a very useful tool to our clinical toolbox.

What is Brunkow: The Brunkow Story
At Primitive Therapeutics, the journey to Brunkow therapy started in 1998, when Dr Richard Cohen was visiting the Prague School of manual therapy at Charles University. During the last day of a two week, learning experience with Drs Janda and Lewit, Dr. Lewit introduced Pavel Kolar to a group of American manual therapists. Dr. Lewit curiously introduced Kolar to the group by saying, “I’m not sure what he is doing, but I believe it is the future.”

Vojta Therapy for Adults
Like children, Vojta therapy can be used to treat adults with a variety of conditions including spinal and brain injuries, stroke, peripheral neuropathy, low back pain, herniated discs, incontinence, and pelvic floor dysfunction. The degree and type of damage will affect the results, but Vojta therapy can influence pain and promote efficient functional movement.

Why Consider a Course in Reflex Locomotion?
Movement is not something the develops spontaneously in the vertical posture, because life begins lying on our backs or our bellies. While in the womb a fetus is in a fluid filled, environment, absent of gravity. Gravity creates the challenge for the infant to move from back and belly lying, to lying with elbow support, lying with hand support, through to side lying, crawling, creeping, and eventually free two foot walking. The ability to rise against gravity requires global muscular actions and interactions, that differ from those that occur in the fluid filled womb. Understanding these global muscle plays, including their anatomic and functional chains, helps us identify the movement deficiencies that have occurred during a child’s development. It is through the application of Reflex Locomotion/Vojta Therapy that we can restore muscular synergy to idealize movement.

Vojta Therapy for Children
Vojta therapy is a non-invasive, holistic approach to the ideal development of movement that focuses on stimulating the nervous system to encourage the innate natural progression. By applying pressure to specific points on the body, Vojta therapy helps children learn to move their bodies in more coordinated and efficient ways.

Exploring Reflex Locomotion: How Our Body Moves Without Conscious Thought
Have you ever stopped to consider how your body moves so fluidly without your conscious effort? Reflex locomotion refers to automatic bodily movements that happen without any conscious thought. For humans, reflex locomotion is triggered by our senses (touch, sight, hearing, taste, smell) and results in muscle movements that happen automatically. It's almost like our bodies have their own special superpowers, hardwired into our nervous systems!

Understanding Vojta Therapy: The Diagnostic and Therapeutic Approach by Dr. Vaclav Vojta
Dr. Vaclav Vojta developed the diagnostic and therapeutic approach called "Reflex Locomotion According to Vojta" or "Vojta Therapy". Dr. Vojta, a Czech pediatric neurologist was initially tasked, in the late 1940’s early 1950’s, with the evaluation and treatment of children with Infantile Cerebral Palsy.
