Reflex Locomotion According to Vojta

Like children, Vojta therapy can be used to treat adults with a variety of conditions including spinal and brain injuries, stroke, peripheral neuropathy, low back pain, herniated discs, incontinence, and pelvic floor dysfunction. The degree and type of damage will affect the results, but Vojta therapy can influence pain and promote efficient functional movement.

Vojta therapy works for individuals of all ages, because the innate motor programs that help children rise against gravity from a lying position to crawling and walking, exist in the brain/nervous system throughout life.  Thru sustained stimulation of zones identified by Dr. Vojta, the therapy can activate the deep spinal and core muscles that support movement and stability. This stimulation is then supported by exercises developed to further enhance the effects of the therapy.  Exercises that mimic stages of movement development achieved by the growing infant.

During a Vojta therapy session, a practitioner trained in the concepts of Vojta therapy, will evaluate the patient to determine the stabilization and movement deficits that impact the patient’s pain and function.  From this evaluation the practitioner will place the patient in certain positions and stimulate specific zones on the body to stimulate and activate the nervous system.  This is Reflex Locomotion AKA Vojta Therapy.

These stimulation sessions are, again, supported by unique exercises.  In our program we will incorporate exercises that model the concepts of Roswitha Brunkow, PT

Vojta therapy is a safe and effective treatment option for adults looking to improve their mobility, stability, overall function  and pain reduction. With regular therapy sessions, patients can expect to see improvements in their posture, balance, and coordination, leading to a better quality of life.
